Over the years many matte painters have inspired me to continue creating and learning this discipline. When I see works of certain artists they push me to continue acquiring new techniques that help me to perfect and improve my Matte painting works. That’s why today I want to share a list of those who for me are the Matte painters of reference and who have influenced me the most.

Yanick Dusseault

For over 25 years, he has worked on high-profile projects at ILM, Lucasfilm and Weta Digital.

His talent is searched by directors such as Spielberg, George Lucas and Peter Jackson. In 2012, JJ Abrams selected him to be part of the dedicated and ongoing Star Wars Art Direction team, and he has continued in that role since Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Marcoiozzi

He worked in the visual effects industry since 1999 for feature films and television after studying Design and Photography. He has collaborated as Matte painter in Jurrasic World, in video games like Call od Duty, Trailers like WWE 2K18 Survivor, Destiny, God of Wars or Bioshock.

Raphael Lacoste

Raphael Lacoste lends his exquisite talent as a director at Sinematic Studios. He was a director at Ubisof, and won a Ves award for his “Two Crowns” scene in Prince of Persia. He has worked on films such as Terminator, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Jupiter Ascending, but has returned to the world of video games.
